Adam Bermudez, 28, allegedly crashed a trash truck after failing to stop at a stop sign at Dublin and Bypass roads in Hilltown on July 2. His passenger, Ricco Rios, 24, died as a result of injuries in the crash.

An East Norriton trash truck driver has been charged by Hilltown Township Police with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and other criminal offenses in the July 2 accident that killed his passenger Ricco Rios, 24, of Norristown, on Dublin Road.

Adam Bermudez, 28, is also charged with reckless endangerment, speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign, careless driving, accidents involving an overturned vehicle, and unlawful activities while using a cell phone, police said.

At 4:30 a.m. July 2, Bermudez was driving a trash truck northbound on Bypass Road at Dublin Road, when he allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign, police said, and attempted to turn left onto Dublin Road.

As the truck turned, it rolled onto its side, striking trees and coming to rest on its side in a drainage area, police said.

Rios was trapped in the truck and died as a result of his injuries, police said.
Hilltown Township Police released the findings of its investigation Tuesday.

Bermudez was arraigned before District Judge Charles Baum of Perkasie on Monday and sent to Bucks County prison in lieu of bail.

Bermudez is free on 10 percent of $10,000 bail, police said.
