Eileen Behr for Sheriff Holds Fundraiser at Blue Bell Inn

Candidate for Montgomery County Sheriff, Eileen Behr worked with the for 34 years, beginning with the department when she was 19 years old and worked her way to up to police chief at Whitemarsh.

She said, when she began with Whitemarsh Police Department, she was the first of six women in Montgomery County to work as a police officer. However, she added that she had “little struggle” and “lots of support” at Whitemarsh. She was also the first female police chief in the county.

She said when you depend on each other you don’t care about gender, “you’re all in this together.”

She retired from the department and was appointed to sheriff of Montgomery County in May when the former sheriff passed away suddenly.

Since being appointed as sheriff in May she has made it a point to be more involved in emergency operations in the county. During Hurricane Irene, her office helped cover shifts at emergency shelters around the county.

She is hoping to harness the energy of her deputies and move forward with the department with that energy.

If elected sheriff she wants to continue cross training in emergency operations and increase training in her force. She added that she wants to improve security around the courthouse in Norristown.

Behr said she has dedicated her life to public service and has always been involved in civic organizations and enjoys serving the public.

“It’s what I’ve always done,” she said.
