Fire at Oak Park Apartments Started by Hot Coals

Industrial dumpster set on fire due to resident placing hot coals inside

Crews from the Lansdale Police Department and Fairmount Fire Company responded early Tuesday evening to a Dumpster blaze located in the parking lot of the Oak Park Apartments and Oak Park Manor on West Main Street and Squirrel Lane.

Neighbors said the blaze began after a resident of the Oak Park Apartments dumped hot coals from their grill into the Dumpster.

The fire began shortly after 8 p.m., with flames visible and smoke surrounding the immediate area.  Fire crews were on scene almost immediately, and had the fire extinguished in 10 minutes. They continued to pour water on the Dumpster as a precaution.
