Gas Leak Caused by Ruptured Underground Main

A contractor struck a 2-inch high pressure gas main with a cable boring machine Friday morning in Montgomery Township

responded to a gas leak at 11:02 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of Montclair and Sterling drives in the township.

A contractor struck a 2-inch high pressure gas main under the roadway with a cable boring machine, according to Rick Lesniak, director of fire services for the township.

PECO was immediately notified and FDMT crews inspected nearby homes to make sure the natural gas did not enter the homes, Lesniak said.

At the request of PECO, FDMT remained on scene while they dug up the street to control the leaking gas main.

FDMT was on scene for about three hours, Lesniak said.
