Hatfield Man Charged with Murder in Stabbing Death of Wife, Police Say

Walid Mitwalli, 36, allegedly stabbed his wife Mona to death in their Denbeigh Drive home early Friday morning. He is facing two felony counts of first-degree murder.

A Hatfield Township man was arraigned Friday on two felony counts of murder of the first degree for allegedly stabbing his wife Mona to death in their home.

Walid Esmat Mitwalli, 36, of the 2900 block of Denbeigh Drive, Hatfield, is also facing a charge of possessing an instrument of crime, according to court records.

Mitwalli remains in Montgomery County prison without bail, as bail is denied in a capital offense in the county.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 17 at 10 a.m. before District Judge Kenneth Deatelhauser. Mitwalli was arraigned before District Judge Walter Gadzicki Jr.

Mitwalli was taken into custody for allegedly stabbing his wife to death in their home Friday.

The stabbing occurred at 3:38 a.m. in the Castle Heights neighborhood, after a domestic dispute, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman.

An autopsy on the victim is scheduled for Friday, according to Ferman's office. The woman was found dead inside the home and her identity is being withheld pending family notification.

The slaying is being investigated by the district attorney's office and Hatfield Township Police.

According to property records, the Mitwallis moved into their home in June 2011. They are parents to twin daughters, according to The Reporter.
