Accused Lansdale Easter Sunday Shooter Has Hearing Continued Again

Karim Walker, 20, is charged with attempted murder in the Easter Sunday shooting near Ridge and East Main streets in Lansdale. Walker remains in Montgomery County prison on $500,000 bail.

For the third time, a preliminary hearing for accused attempted murderer Karim Walker, 20, of the 5000 block of Boudinot Street, Philadelphia, was continued in Lansdale District Court Thursday morning.

Court officials said Walker's attorney, Douglas Dolfman, requested the continuance. The new preliminary hearing date is May 7 at 2 p.m.

A hearing was continued last month due to witnesses failing to appear to testify on the Easter Sunday shooting near Ridge and East Main streets in Lansdale. One of those witnesses was an alleged target of Walker—his girlfriend's brother, according to court documents.

Walker’s attorney told The Reporter in April that he had a “gut feeling” that the witnesses would not show up for the hearing.

Walker allegedly fled the Easter Sunday shooting in an alley off Ridge Street in a Ford SUV—with his two-year-old son inside the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said officers eventually found a stolen, loaded Glock semi-automatic gun with 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition; the ammunition matched a round recovered at the scene, according to the affidavit.

Walker is charged with 15 criminal offenses: First-degree attempted murder, first-degree felony aggravated assault, second-degree felony aggravated assault, felony carrying a firearm without a license, felony manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, felony receiving stolen property, misdemeanor possessing an instrument of crime, misdemeanor making repairs or selling an offensive weapon, misdemeanor terroristic threats, misdemeanor endangering the welfare of children, two counts of misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, harassment and disorderly conduct, according to court records.

The alleged shooting has its roots in February with an exchange of words between Walker and his girlfriend’s brother, according to the affidavit.

At around 4 p.m. on Easter Sunday, Walker and his girlfriend were in front of her home on the 100 block of East Main Street, according to the affidavit. Suddenly, Walker said he wanted to fight one of his girlfriend’s brothers, according to the affidavit.

Two of her brothers went into the alley behind East Main Street, as Walker drove his SUV to the entrance of the alley at Ridge Street, according to the complaint. At this point, Walker was about 60 feet away from his girlfriend’s brothers. The girlfriend exited the car and began walking toward them, according to the complaint.

Walker allegedly began yelling at the brothers, then pulled the Glock from his waistband and pointed it at the brothers, firing one shot, according to the complaint.

Police said the girlfriend, one of the brothers and a third person witnessed the event.

After the alleged shooting, Walker got into his SUV and fled the area toward Philadelphia, police said.

Lower Gwynedd Township Police stopped Walker around 4:15 p.m. on Route 309, acting on an All Points Bulletin. At the time of his arrest, Walker was charged with aggravated assault, according to the complaint.

Lower Gwynedd Police did not find a gun on Walker, according to the affidavit.

Meanwhile, in Lansdale, a 9mm round was recovered at the scene, police said.

Walker told police during an interview that he had an argument with the brothers in the alley, but the gun “accidentally discharged” when he got out of the SUV, according to the complaint.

The Glock was found in the SUV during a Monday morning search warrant, according to the affidavit. It was reported stolen from Philadelphia in August 2012, according to the complaint.

The drug charges against Walker stem from seven bags of suspected marijuana found inside a jacket that was in the SUV, police said.

Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Strubel is prosecuting the case, according to the District Attorney' Office.
