Husband Charged in Hatfield Shooting

Pete Tano remains at county prison on $50,000 cash bail

Police arrested and charged a man with aggravated assault and other charges after he allegedly shot his estranged wife at her Hatfield home early Sunday morning.

Pete Craig Tano, 42, of the 100 block of Richardson Road, was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault, three counts of misdemeanor simple assault, possessing instruments of crime, recklessly endangering another person and defiant trespass, according to Hatfield Township Police Detective Sgt. John Ciarlello.

Tano was arraigned before District Judge Ester Casillo and remanded to Montgomery County Prison on $50,000 cash bail, police said.

A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. before District Judge Andrea Duffy.

Police responded to a call of a shooting on the 100 block of Bethlehem Pike at 12:42 a.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, police found a 40-year-old female resident in her home with a gunshot wound to her hand, police said.

The victim's estranged husband, identified as Tano, was also on scene, police said.

He was taken into custody by responding officers, police said.

According to Montgomery County court records, Tano has three other incidents on his record since 1999, and one criminal case in the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas, filed in July 2008.

In the Bucks County Court case, Tano was charged by Chalfont Borough Police in March 2008 with misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor disorderly conduct/fighting, as well as public drunkenness and obstructing justice.

He was remanded to Bucks County Community Correction Center and posted 10 percent of $25,000 bail, according to county records.

The obstruction charge was dismissed. He pleaded not guilty to public drunkenness, according to county records.

Tano pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and disorderly conduct at a July 2008 trial and was sentenced to 18 months probation and anger management classes.

Tano was charged with public drunkenness in July 2004 in Montgomery Township and pleaded guilty.

In April 2000, he was charged in Montgomery Township with, and pleaded guilty to, operating a vehicle without a valid inspection.

In September 1999, a charge of parking illegally where signs prohibit parking in Horsham Township was dismissed in September 2001.
