Intoxicated Driver Intentionally Hit Police Car: Lansdale Cops

Police say 47-year-old Ronald Boccella led them through a chase in the borough and intentionally hit a police car Sunday morning.

Police say an intoxicated man deliberately crashed into a police car Sunday during an early morning pursuit.

Lansdale Borough Police told The Reporter that an officer on patrol early Sunday attempted to pull over 47-year-old Ronald Boccella after he was seen speeding and ignoring traffic signals throughout the borough. Officers told the publication when Boccella finally pulled over at Hancock and Maple, he put his car in reverse, intentionally hitting a patrol car.

After driving over a curb, the sidewalk and grass embankment, Boccella sped away with an officer in pursuit until “skidding” in front of his house on Maple Street, according to The Reporter.

Police said Boccella resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody. He told police he was drinking at the Lansdale Tavern earlier that night, the Reporter said.

Court records show Boccella is facing several charges, including two felonies. Charges include felony aggravated assault, attempting to elude law enforcement, resisting arrest, DUI, recklessly endangering another person and others.

Boccella posted bail and will have a preliminary hearing May 28, court records show.
