Lansdale Man Defecated in Jail Cell, Smeared it On Surveillance Camera: Cops

An intoxicated Lansdale man defecated in his jail cell and smeared it on the surveillance camera after being arrested for public drunkenness Thursday, police told The Reporter.

Steven Vandergrift, 28, is facing multiple charges in connection with the early-morning incident, including institutional vandalism as well as public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, court records show.

Vandergrift was reportedly drinking at Montella’s Sports Bar and Pub when police were called to the S Broad Street establishment for a report of an intoxicated man who wouldn’t leave and threw a glass in the street.  Vandergrift, whose blood alcohol level was .20 percent, was taken into custody by police, according to The Reporter.

Before defecating, he was acting up in his jail cell, police told the publication.  He tried to flush his shirt down the toilet, spat on the surveillance camera and then eventually defecated and smeared it on the camera.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 3, court records show.
