Lansdale Police Sergeant Assaulted, Hospitalized During DUI Stop

The officer is unable to return to duty due to severity of injuries suffered Saturday morning at Third and Walnut streets, police said. Brothers Alfredo and Richard Noboa, of Towamencin, have been charged.

A Lansdale Police sergeant is unable to return to duty due to severity of injuries suffered early Saturday morning during an alleged assault by two brothers, one who was stopped for alleged DUI at Third and Walnut streets, according to The Reporter.
The sergeant suffered a fractured nose, a fractured hand, a contusion to his head, facial trauma and other injuries in an alleged assault with Alfredo Noboa, 28, of the 200 block of Franklin Court, Towamencin.
Alfredo Noboa and Richard Noboa, 31, sit in Montgomery County prison in lieu of $75,000 cash bail each, according to Montgomery County court records. Both are scheduled for preliminary hearings Dec. 17 before District Judge Harold Borek in Lansdale.
Alfredo Noboa is charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault, one count of felony riot with intent to prevent official action, one count of misdemeanor simple assault, one count of misdemeanor resisting arrest, one count of misdemeanor hindering apprehension, and one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, according to court records.
Richard Noboa was charged with felony aggravated assault, felony riot with intent to prevent official action, misdemeanor resisting arrest, multiple counts of misdemeanor DUI and misdemeanor disorderly conduct, per court records.
According to an affidavit, Richard Noboa was stopped after allegedly speeding out of the Third and Walnut Bar lot around 2 a.m., nearly hitting a police car and driving down the wrong side of the street. Noboa was pulled over in a lot at Third and Walnut street by police, police said.
After noticing alleged glassy, bloodshot eyes, an odor of alcohol and a zipper on his pants down, officers ordered Noboa out of the car for field sobriety tests, per the affidavit.
At this time, Alfredo Noboa and the Noboa's father approached the vehicle, but were told to stay on the sidewalk across the street, police said. Richard Noboa then allegedly failed field sobriety tests and blew a .17 in a breathalyzer, police said.
Richard Noboa was arrested and escorted to a police car, but Alfredo Noboa and his father shouted that Alfredo wasn't driving and Alfredo walked toward his brother and the police officer, police said.
As the sergeant attempted to stop Alfredo Noboa, Alfredo allegedly punched the sergeant in the shoulder and threw him to the ground, per the affidavit. The sergeant hit the back of his head on the bumper as he fell, and once on the ground, Alfredo Noboa allegedly began punching him in the face and head, police said.
Other people pulled Noboa off the sergeant, and when the sergeant went to arrest Alfredo Noboa, he allegedly pushed the officer down again, mounted him and began punching him again, police said. Other officers pulled Noboa off the sergeant and took him into custody.
Meanwhile, bystanders were taking video of the alleged assault with their cell phones, police said. Richard Noboa then yelled that he was innocent and urged bystanders to get the officers on tape, police said.
Richard Noboa then allegedly resisted arrest, kicking an officer in the chest before he was Tasered and put into the police car, per the affidavit.
A breath test of Richard Noboa at Montgomery Township Police headquarters read a BAC of .188 percent and .193 percent, per the affidavit. Richard Noboa's license is also expired and suspended.
