A Volvo truck tractor trailer partially tipped while traveling on the I-76 west ramp to Route 202 in Upper Merion Wednesday morning, injuring a woman after a hefty piece of metal spilled off of the trailer’s load and onto her Toyota Corolla, according to Pennsylvania State Trooper Thomas Falcon.
The tractor trailer, driven by Vernon Smith of Egg Harbor, New Jersey, partially overturned around 6:40 a.m. and was held up by the side barrier, while some of its load fell over the side of the ramp. A sizeable piece of metal fell onto a Corolla driven by Janice Storms of Lansdale, who was trapped inside of the car and had to be rescued, per Falcon.
Storms suffered serious injuries and was taken to Paoli Hospital; Smith has minor injuries, according to state police.
The I-76 west ramp to Route 202 south was closed, as was the ramp going from Gulph Road to Route 202 south.
An investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information can contact State Trooper Thomas Falcon, Pennsylvania State Police Philadelphia Barracks, 215-452-5216.
