Mineral Oil Spill From Rex Heat Treat Affects Neshaminy Creek in Lansdale

A leak from the roof of Rex Heat Treat on Eighth Street did not pose a significant environmental threat, fire crews said.

A 210-gallon mineral oil leak from the roof of Rex Heat Treat on Eighth Street near Valley Forge Road spilt into a tributary of a branch of the Neshaminy Creek Friday afternoon in Lansdale.

According to The Reporter, the incident occurred at 4:01 p.m. and Fairmount Fire Co. and Colmar Fire Co. responded to the incident.

Fairmount Chief Joe Stockert told The Reporter that the spill did not pose an environmental threat. Booms were placed in the creek by fire crews and Rex Heat Treat cleaned up most of its spill, according to the report.

Jonathan Rex, of Rex Heat Treat, told Patch that the spill "was caught almost immediately" and most of it was contained on site.
