Mom Drove Drunk to Liquor Store, Left Kids Unattended in Car, Police Say

A Lansdale woman is facing numerous charges after police say she drove drunk to a liquor store and left her two children unattended in the car while she went in to purchase alcohol.

Amy Dooney, 31, has been charged with leaving a child unattended in a vehicle, DUI, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person, among other charges, in connection with the July 12 incident.

Police told The Reporter that they were called to the state store on Valley Forge Road in Towamencin Saturday around 8:45 p.m. for a report of children left unattended in a parked car.

Dooney, who police said smelled of alcohol, came to the car with her unattended children inside shortly after officers arrived on the scene. She admitted that she had consumed a few drinks before driving with her 3-year-old and 7-year-old children, police told The Reporter.

According to reports, field tests showed Dooeny had a blood alcohol level of .15 percent, which is almost twice the legal limit.

Court records show Dooney has a preliminary hearing on July 23 in front of District Judge Harold Borek.
