Montco Judge to Appellate Court: Uphold Baby Killer's 15-to-30-Year Sentence

Jameel Earthy East, 25, formerly of Lantern Lane in Towamencin, has appealed his prison term for killing his infant son to the state court.

A Montgomery County judge who handed down a 15- to 30-year prison sentence to Jameel Earthy East, 25, formerly of Towamencin, for killing his infant son, wrote to the appellate court urging it to uphold the prison term for the heinous crime, according to The Times Herald.
President Judge William Furber Jr., in a Pennsylvania Superior Court opinon, said East's reduced sentence appeal is without merit, per the report.
Furber wrote that the law "does not require that a defendant be pleased with the outcome of his guilty plea, and defendant’s dissatisfaction does not entitle him to appellate relief," per the opinion.
East admitted murdering his three-month-old son Enzo in June 25, 2011 by bashing his head on a bathroom sink after the boy spit up on him.
East, after getting his prison term in June 2013, did not like it; he asked Furber for a reduced sentence, which was denied. So, East has now appealed to the state court.
East's lawyers, Kate Taxis and Jodi Griffis, argue a lesser sentence of six to 12 years is more appropriate, citing East's lack of intelligence, remorse, cooperation and guilty plea, per the report.
Enzo was admitted to Lansdale Hospital with severe head truma. The infant was later airlifted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. An autopsy revealed that Enzo had died from multiple skull fractures and blunt force trauma to the head.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police initially interviewed East about his son's death June 25, 2011. At that time, East stated that Enzo had been "fussy" throughout the day, vomiting multiple times.
After speaking to their family doctor, East then called a friend to transport the infant to the hospital. During the ride, East stated that Enzo stopped breathing, and his body went limp, according to court documents.
Detectives met with East a second time June 25, citing inconsistencies in the statement that he had previously given. During the second interview, court documents state that East changed his story, and that the infant had vomited onto his shorts, at which point he carried his son into a bathroom to bathe him.
East said he was "overwhelmed" as he entered the bathroom, and struck the infant's skull against the counter surface located between to the two sinks, which created a "loud bang," according to the affidavit.
