Fingers are crossed at Fire Department of Montgomery Township and the township Department of Fire Services that two $15,000 grants will be approved to improve fire safety response. On Monday night, Montgomery Township Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the two Pennsylvania Fire Commissioners grant applications. Montgomery Township Director of Fire Services Rick Lesniak said the program was opened up last year to volunteer and combination career and volunteer fire departments. One $15,000 grant will be submitted through the Department of Fire Services to fund three new portable radios to operate on the new Montgomery County radio system, Lesniak said. The second $15,000 grant will be submitted through FDMT for the purchase of a new thermal imaging camera and a 5-gas meter. "The thermal imaging camera and gas meter are aging equipment used by the department that we need to replace," Lesniak said. Supervisors Chairman Joe Walsh said he appreciated Lesniak's "diligence in seeking grants."
