Wilkes-Barre Fugitives Captured by Montgomery Twp. Police

Wanted in connection with shooting and robbery incidents in Wilkes-Barre area; arrested at convenience store after being sighted on Route 309

A pair of men wanted on multiple charges stemming from an incident in the Wilkes-Barre area last month were captured in Montgomery Township early Sunday morning by Montgomery Township police.

Police spotted the rented, gold-colored 2011 Chevrolet Cruze with stolen license plates being driven by the suspects on Route 309 at about 3:00 a.m. Sunday. After learning that car was sought in connection with a Friday morning shooting incident involving state troopers near Wilkes-Barre, police followed the car to a convenience store.

Police arrested William Gronosky, 29, in the store's restroom and Kevin Williams, also 29, as he exited the store. Authorities had previously believed the men might have been headed for New York.

Gronosky and Williams were originally wanted in connection with a daylight armed robbery at a strip club in Plymouth, a suburb of Wilkes-Barre, on March 15. The two men allegedly held the owner of the club at gunpoint and robbed more than $3,500 from him.

The men were also wanted for the alleged burglary, on March 23, of a state trooper's home. The trooper, who was on duty at a casino at the time of the burglary, reported that guns, ammunition, and electronics were stolen from his house. Police have arrested the trooper's 23-year-old ex-girlfriend in connection with the burglary. Courtney Sadusky told police that she helped Gronosky because her current boyfriend owed him money for drugs and she feared for her safety. She is accused of driving the getaway vehicle for the March 15 robbery and with driving the men to the trooper's house for the March 23 burglary.

Gronosky had last been seen by state police early Friday morning, at the same club he is accused of robbing on March 15. Police received a tip that Gronosky was at the strip club. When state troopers arrived at the club, Gronosky allegedly fired two shots at the troopers before escaping in the gold Chevrolet, which police pursued for several miles on Route 11 southbound before reportedly losing sight of the vehicle. Police raided four homes in the area later Friday in an unsuccessful search for Gronosky.

Gronosky and Williams are also "persons of interest" in a March 26 robbery in which a homeowner was tied up inside his home before his Ford Focus was stolen. The suspects in that incident later reportedly fired shots at a Wilkes-Barre police officer during a 25-mile pursuit.

Montgomery Township Police turned the men over to state police later Sunday morning, and they have been returned to Luzerne County, where additional charges are expected be filed against Gronosky.
