No Yield Sign Coming to Norway and Lakeview Intersection

The public safety committee discussed a request for a yield sign at the intersection, but said it wasn't feasible

Don’t expect to see a yield sign anytime soon at the intersection of Norway and Lakeview drives.

The public safety committee decided it wasn’t feasible or possible to install a yield sign at a location where neighbors of councilman Rich DiGregorio expressed a traffic concern.

“I don’t see an issue with the street,” said committee chair Mike Sobel. “I don’t see what we’re going to do with it.”

“It’s a non-issue,” said committeewoman Mary Fuller.

Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre said a stop sign already exists at the end of Norway Drive.

“Norway is one continuous thoroughfare,” said McDyre. “We’re actually not allowed to post (a yield sign) there. If we did post a yield sign, nobody would know when to go.”

McDyre told the committee that Lakeview Drive is “an odd street.”

“It’s a big circle. Norway dead-ends (there) so you have to have a stop sign,” he said. “What happens is people don’t look when coming through there.”

The only feasible thing the committee could recommend for council to enforce is a sign warning people about opposing traffic.

“It isn’t cross traffic,” McDyre said. “You’re ending or entering another roadway, so you have a duty to stop if you have another roadway anyway.”

McDyre said there has not been an accident at that intersection in two years.

“I’m recommending reviewing it further,” he said. “The problem with a yield sign is, you stop at Norway, you stop at the yield, and nobody will know which person to yield to.”
