POLICE LOG: North Wales juvenile, two passengers arrested in car theft incident

A 16-year-old North Wales boy and two other juveniles fled from police in a SUV stolen from Lansdale

A North Wales boy was arrested Feb. 4 for allegedly stealing an SUV from Lansdale Borough, Towamencin Police said. The same youth allegedly led police on a high-speed chase, finally ending in Upper Gwynedd when he crashed the SUV into a snowbank.

The 16-year-old youth is charged with receiving stolen property, recklessly endangering another person, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving without a license and reckless driving.

The boy was released to a parent, police said.

At 11:23 p.m. Feb. 4, Towamencin police on patrol observed a dark-colored SUV parked on the side of the road near Snyder and Valley Forge roads.

A male, identified as the youth, was seen outside the vehicle, police said.

Police checked the vehicle registration and learned that it had been reported stolen from Lansdale Borough.

As the officer turned around, the vehicle was mobile, police said. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled. Police said the driver traveled at speeds in excess of 80 mph.

The vehicle finally became stuck in a pile of snow at Sumneytown Pike and Dickerson Road in Upper Gwynedd, police said.

The North Wales boy fled on foot and police followed, but lost him behind a building in the 100 block of Dickerson Road, police said.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, also juveniles, were taken into custody, police said. They have yet to be charged.

Police continued to search for the North Wales boy, and a Lansdale Borough police officer located the boy attempting to hide behind a building in the area and took him into custody, police said.
