Woman Uninjured in Residential Fire in Montgomery Township

Several fire companies responded to a single-family detached home on Saturday evening

The cause of a Saturday night fire in a home at 2121 Goodwin Lane in Montgomery Township remains under investigation by Director of Fire Services Rick Lesniak and Montgomery Township Police.

A fire broke out on the second floor bedroom of the brick Cape Cod at around 9:52 p.m.

A female occupant was rescued out of the home by a male resident. It was not confirmed if she was related to the rescuer.

"There was a report of an entrapment, but the resident did exit the home," said Fire Department of Montgomery Township Battalion Chief Joe Simes. "She was helped out by another resident of the home."

The fire was contained to the bedroom. Simes said there was extensive smoke and water damage throughout the second floor.

He said the fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes. It took FDMT crews about 60 seconds to run a firehose line to the house.

No one was injured in the fire.

Crews knocked out the bedroom windows on the side and rear of the building for ventilation.

A pile of charred debris -- clothing, carpet, bed frames and the skeleton bedsprings of a mattress -- gathered at the bottom of a ladder angled against the side of the home, as firefighters investigated the second-floor bedroom.

Montgomery County Public Land Records show ownership of the home to Gary D. Parkinson (It is the former residence of Edwin and Minnie Goodwin, the namesake of the road).

The brick house is connected via an attached garage to the brick Cape Cod next door at 2119 Goodwin Lane.

Simes said firefighters were in-house at the time of the call, following Saturday night training. FDMT firefighters are in-house six nights out of the week from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

"We pride ourselves in getting out fast," Simes said.

FDMT was assisted at the scene by Chalfont Fire Co., Wissahickon Fire Co., Warrington Fire Co., Horsham Fire Co. and Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale.

[Editor's note: the initial version of this story incorrectly stated that one occupant of the home had been transported to the hospital.]
