Trash fire contained at Montgomeryville business

The loading dock fire at wooden shutter factory was captured on security cameras as it broke out.

A Friday morning fire at a Montgomery Township business that manufactures wooden shutters started in a trash bin near a loading dock but was largely contained by the building's sprinkler system, the township said in a statement issued today.

The Montgomery Township Fire Department was dispatched to Timberlane Woodcrafters, Inc. at 150 Domorah Drive at 8:22am. Upon arrival, they discovered water from the sprinkler system coming out from beneath a garage door and could smell smoke outside the building.

The firefighters extinguished the portion of the fire that had not been put out by the activation of the sprinklers.

Rick Lesniak, Fire Services Director and Fire Marshal for Montgomery Township, said the sprinkler system contained the fire to a small area.

"If it wasn't for the sprinkler system, the fire could have completely destroyed the entire building," Lesniak said.

Footage from the building security cameras showed the fire starting in a trash bin that contained combustible materials, which the township said included "residue" from a recently cleaned paint booth.

The Montgomery Township Fire Department was assisted by the following fire companies: North Penn, Wissahickon, Hilltown, and Horsham. The Montgomery Township Police Department and the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale also assisted at the scene.
