Two Apprehended After Upper Gwynedd Hit-and-Run

Lansdale, Upper Gwynedd and Montgomery Township police departments assisted in capturing the suspects near Wissahickon Park Apartments on Sunday

Two Hispanic males were apprehended Sunday near Valleybrook Drive and Wissahickon Park Apartments in Lansdale after they fled from a hit-and-run accident on East Main Street in Upper Gwynedd.

The accident occurred around 12:10 p.m. and the suspects fled toward Lakeview Drive in Lansdale.

Sgt. Alex Kromdyk of Lansdale Police said three officers were called to assist in a search around 12:20 p.m.

Lansdale officers first responded to the 1000 block of East Main Street for the hit-and-run accident and learned that the two suspects fled eastbound on Main Street and then northbound on Lakeview Drive, police said.

Police set up a perimeter and Montgomery Township K-9 was called to assist and track the suspects, police said.

One Lansdale officer spotted a suspect running through the creekbed of northbound toward Knapp Road, police said.

Kromdyk said the suspect saw the officer and continued running. The officer gave chase through the creek and told the suspect to stop several times, Kromdyk said.

The officer caught up with the suspect and taserd him, Kromdyk said.

"He fell to the ground. After the Taser completed its cycle, the suspect got up and started running again," Kromdyk said. "The officer Tasered him again and he fell to the ground."

The suspect cooperated with police and Upper Gwynedd police took him into custody, Kromdyk said.

Another Lansdale officer, along with the Montgomery Township K-9, located the second suspect behind a home on Valleybrook Drive along the creekline, Kromdyk said.

The second suspect was taken into custody, Kromdyk said.

Upper Gwynedd Township Police was contacted for further information and Patch is awaiting a callback from police.
