Earlier Story

The names of the driver of a Chevy Cavalier and the driver of a Toyota Camry, who were killed at the scene of an accident Saturday evening at Routes 152 and 113 in Silverdale Borough, are being withheld, pending family notification, police said.

Police believe speed may be a factor in the accident.

According to Hilltown Township Police, a Chevy Cavalier was stopped at a red light on northbound Baringer Avenue (Route 152), at around 5:20 p.m. A Toyota Camry hit the Cavalier from behind, police said.

The Cavalier was forced into the left side of the intersection, sideswiping a utility pole and striking a clothing bin, police said. The car came to rest on its left side, police said.

Meanwhile, the Toyota continued through the intersection, where it hit a large rock — and became airborne, police said. The Camry collided with several sheds at Elite Outdoor Structures, before coming to rest 300 feet from the intersection, police said.

The driver of each vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One person, a passenger in the Cavalier, was injured, police said. The injured passenger was treated at Lehigh Valley Hospital, police said.

The intersection was closed for nearly four hours.

An exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
