Two Injured in Accident on Hancock Street

A young man and woman were transported by ambulance to Abington Hospital's main campus following a one-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in front of on Hancock Street in Lansdale.

According to Lansdale Police Sgt. Dean Miller, the female was driving a Honda Civic eastbound on Hancock Street, when she veered right and crashed into a utility pole before the entrance to Stony Creek Park.

Both airbags deployed and the windshield was cracked. Miller said both the driver and her male passenger hit their heads in the accident.

Airbags were deployed in the accident.

Nora Schwartz, of Towamencin, was eastbound on Hancock Street behind the vehicle.

"I saw the car go like this," she said, making the motion of the vehicle making a hard, wide right turn. She said it seemed the vehicle crossed over the double lines into the other lane and then came back across the eastbound lane.

Schwartz said another eyewitness said the vehicle was attempting to avoid a van either coming from the opposite direction or in her lane. Schwartz said she didn't see a van.

"I thought she was pulling into the parking lot," Schwartz said. "I jumped out of the car, and this lady, who is a nurse, came running up. She jogged right past me. People responded immediately."

She said another man driving by stopped to aid. She said he was an emergency responder.

"It was amazing how quickly the community responds," she said. 

Miller said investigating officers were headed to Abington Hospital to interview the driver and her passenger.
