Undercover Police Make Drug Arrest at Local Bar

Michael Jerome Aye, 25, of Lansdale, is facing multiple drug-related charges after the staff of a local bar called police to report suspicious activity occurring in the bathroom.

A 25-year-old Lansdale man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly sold cocaine to undercover police in the bathroom of a local bar.

Michael Jerome Aye is charged with felony possession with intent to distribute, felony distribution and sales of a non-controlled substance as a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to us drug paraphernalia and receipt in commerce.

Aye entered the front door of Montella's Sports Bar around 3:45 p.m., when a staff member recognized him as a previous customer who had been physically chased away by the bar's management during a previous visit. Since that time, Aye had been banned from entering the establishment.

While Aye was lingering in the bathroom, a staff member contacted police to report the suspicious activity. A short time later, two undercover police officers from the Lansdale Police Department entered the establishment and took seats at the bar.

According to the police report, Aye allegedly offered to sell cocaine to one of the undercover officers while they were in the bathroom. Upon completion of the alleged sale, Aye then left the bar and walked east on Jenkins Avenue, where police were already waiting to take him into custody.

Aye was arraigned before Judge Francis Bernhardt in Conshohocken, who set bail at $50,000 unsecured.

Aye was then released, pending an upcoming preliminary hearing before Judge Harold Borek in Lansdale.

Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre extended his gratitude to the staff at Montella's, describing their actions as "instrumental in the apprehension [of Aye]."

According to court records, Aye pleaded guilty in Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in February 2010 to felony manufacture/delivery/possession with intent to deliver controlled substances and was sentenced 12 months at an Intermediate Punishment Program. In July 2010, a 90-day modification was made to the IPP sentence. In April 2011, Aye was given eight years' probation, according to records.

All in all, Aye has nine criminal cases in Philadelphia Municipal and Common Pleas Courts, according to court records. He has no criminal records in Montgomery County.
