A math teacher at Lower Moreland High School faces criminal charges after having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, authorities said.

Erica Ann Ginnetti, 33, is charged with institutional sexual assault, corruption of minors and disseminating obscene materials to a minor.

Mongomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Lower Moreland Police Chief Peter C. Hasson provided this version of the events that led to Ginnetti's arrest:

On Jan. 15, 2014, Lower Moreland police received a report that a teacher at the high school was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student at the school. An investigation revealed that Ginnetti had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male, authorities said.

Ginnetti, of Philadelphia, sent the victim sexually explicit photos and videos of herself, and had sex with him one time, according to Ferman and Hasson.

The relationship between Ginnetti and the student began in May 2013, when Ginnetti approached him at the high school's senior prom and asked if he would come work out at her gym. A few days later, the teen emailed Ginnetti, asking for her phone number. She provided her cell-phone number, and she and the teen started communicating daily.

Over the next several months, Ginnetti sent the victim a series of sexually explicit text messages. The text included videos of Ginnetti undressing and performing sex acts on herself , as well as several sexually suggestive photos of herself in her underwear and in a bikini, according to Ferman and Hasson.

In July 2013, Ginnetti and the teen met at a coffee shop in Northeast Philadelphia. Ginnetti then drove the alleged victim to a nearby industrial park on the border of Lower Moreland and Philadelphia, where they had sex, authorities said. Ginnetti later drove the teen back to the coffee shop, and asked him not to tell anyone about the encounter.

Ginnetti was arraigned Friday before Magisterial District Court Judge Jay Friedenburg in Willow Grove. Bail was set at $50,000, with the further conditions that Ginnetti surrender her passport; have no contact with the victim; have no contact with minors other than her own children; and be placed on GPS monitoring.

A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 14. The case will be prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sophia Polites.
