$170,000 State Grant Awarded to Towamencin for Fischer's Park Improvements

The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant requires a 50 percent match from Towamencin Township, which will come from a $500,000 bequeath from the estate of Elizabeth Arneth.

Towamencin Township has received some help from the state in its quest to improve Fischer's Park on Bustard Road.
The township received a $170,000 grant to be put toward the $340,000 improvements at the park.
The grant was awarded through the state Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program.
The township completed a number of improvements to the park last summer, including a new bathroom pavilion, a rain garden and game tables, but some improvements were beyond the scope of the project, according to township Manager Rob Ford. Those improvements are now eligible under the new grant program. The township expects to install a new playground and repair the dam at the park.
The Reporter reports that most of last summer's work was funded by a $300,000 Community Conservation Partnerships Program Grant.
The new grant requires Towamencin to put up a 50 percent local match of the total project cost, or $170,000. The match will come from the annual bequeath to Towamencin from the estate of Elizabeth Arneth. The trust restricts that funds can only be used for Fischer's Park improvements.
According to The Reporter, Arneth's estate bequeathed $500,000 to the township. Arneth sold the Fischer's Park property to Towamencin in the 1990s, per The Reporter.
The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program is a result of Pennsylvania's Act 13 of 2012, which established the Marcellus Legacy Fund. The fund allocates money to the state financing authority for planning, acquisition, development and rehabilitation of greenways, trails, open space and parks.
