$250K Estimate for 311 Arts Facade Restoration

Lansdale Administration and Finance Committee recommended preparing a resolution to accept an estimated 311 Arts facade restoration for $250,000.

Lansdale Borough's step-by-step approach to the revival of 311 W. Main St. as 311 Arts could begin Aug. 21.

On Monday night, Spiezle Architects and 311 Arts consultant Laura Burnham revealed the building and business plan for 311 W. Main St.

At that meeting, Lansdale Borough Manager Timi Kirchner said she would bring recommendations related to the building and its future to the Administration and Finance Committee. One such recommendation was the restoration of the historic face of the former Masonic Temple.

The committee Wednesday night made a recommendation to prepare and advertise for a resolution for the maintenance of the facade of 311 Arts. The recommendation will be voted on by council Aug. 21.

"It's recommended that it not sit through one more winter, with the potential of continued risk to it," said committee Chairman Dan Dunigan.

Dunigan said Spiezle Architects gave an initial restoration estimate of around $250,000.

"The restoration folks ... commented that it was one of the most impressive facades they had ever seen. And these are folks that specialize in historic restoration," Dunigan said.

Spiezle Architects' Scott Malin said Monday that restoration would need to be done "real soon."

Kirchner, in her closing remarks Monday night, said the first step to the revival of 311 Arts is the facade restoration, as it is "a critical step to save the building."

"It serves as a beacon of great things to come," she said.
