Cockroaches More Popular Than Congress

Congress less popular than cockroaches, root canals and traffic jams, public poll shows.

So just how unpopular is Congress these days?

Even before the government shutdown, the public already considered federal lawmakers less likable than cockroaches and colonoscopies. 

A Public Policy Polling survey earlier this year found that respondents consider Congress less favorably than:

  • Head lice
  • Root canals
  • Canadian rock band Nickleback
  • Colonoscopies
  • Used-car salesmen
  • Traffic jams 
  • Brussels sprouts

It’s not all bad news for Congress though. Americans surveyed do prefer Congress to telemarketers, lobbyists, gonorrhea and the Kardashians.

Only 9 percent of those surveyed had a favorable opinion of Congress. A whopping 85 percent had an unfavorable view of Congress.
