Extra, Extra: Hatboro Considers Newsletter

The council is expected to take action at its Feb. 27 meeting.

Ever wonder what’s going on in your community?

The Hatboro Borough Council is hoping to keep residents informed of borough happenings through a new newsletter, to be published by Perkasie-based Hometown Press. The governing body is slated to take formal action at its Feb. 27 voting meeting.

If that happens, work will begin immediately on the first edition, which Councilman Bob Hegele said is planned for spring or summer.

The first issue would be free, according to Hegele and subsequent issues – including a fall/winter 2012 edition - would cost Hatboro about $600 based on the 20 cents per copy price to mail it to borough homeowners and business owners.

Hegele said Hometown Press solicits local businesses for ads to cover the publishing expense, leaving the municipality with only postage costs. Previously, the borough spent $1,600 and $2,000 for each of its newsletters, which he said ceased publishing three or four years ago.

“I think it’s pretty much a no-brainer,” Hegele said of switching operations to Hometown Press.

Is the Boro suppose to post all minutes from all meeting online so the public can read?Since we have a local TV chanel can't we just post everything there? Not sarcastic questions, just two questions i don't know the answer to.

Maybe have an outside 3rd party handle the advertising. Not sure if that would cost more money than its worth though.
