Montgomery Township is History?

District Judge Andrea Duffy, a member of the township 300th anniversary committee, is in talks with Arcadia Publishing for a book about the township.

The newest member of the Montgomery Township's 300th Anniversary planning committee has already begun to prepare for the township's 300th birthday.

The Montgomery Township Board of Supervisors added District Judge Andrea Duffy to the planning committee at its meeting Monday, but Duffy began to plan long before she was an official member.

Duffy said she contacted Arcadia Publishing to write a book about the history of Montgomery Township.

"The publisher got back and said they were actually interested in doing a book, so I was very impressed with her [Andrea's] first efforts," Chairman Robert Birch said.

"I want there to be pictures of what it looked like in the past," Duffy said.

Duffy hopes citizens are excited and willing to share their stories with the writers.

"Andrea Duffy is going to be a great addition to the committee," Birch said.

More information about a book on Montgomery Township will be available Wednesday.

While a book has never been published on Montgomeryville or Lansdale Borough, they were included in the 2002 Arcadia Publishing Postcard History Series release The North Penn Community. Other municipalities featured in the book were Colmar, North Wales, West Point, Hatfield and Kulpsville.

Arcadia Publishing has released more than 100 books about communities, historical sites and sports teams in a 25-mile radius of Montgomery Township.

Local books include publications about Gwynedd-Mercy College, Ambler, Chalfont and New Britain, Horsham Township, Warrington, Norristown, Perkasie, and Fort Washington and Upper Dublin, to name a few.
