No Tax Increase in $12M Montgomery Township 2014 Budget

The millage rate of 1.49 mills has remained as such for eight years. The budget factors in a $9 million bond borrowing for the proposed community center.

Montgomery Township Supervisors have held the line on taxes for an eighth year, approving a $12 million budget for 2014 Monday night, according to The Reporter.
This keeps the millage rate at 1.49 mills, which was first enacted in 2006. The Homestead Exclusion remains at $30,000, meaning more than 75 percent of homeowners have received more than $310,000 in tax relief, per the township.
Revenues in the 2014 budget are $12.312 million and expenses are at $12.285 million. The budget is nearly a million dollars more than the 2013 budget.
The $9 million bond borrowing for a proposed community center at Stump and Horsham roads has skewed the budget numbers, per the article. A transfer of reserves to the parks and recreation fund will offset the cost of construction, according to the report.
The budget includes expenses for a new fire engine for Fire Department of Montgomery Township and two new police vehicles, among other things.
