One-Way Chestnut Street in Lansdale Could Become Two-Way Again

A block of Chestnut Street was made one-way to prevent left turns onto East Main Street, according to a Lansdale public safety committee member.

The public safety committee in Lansdale will begin looking into the feasibility of returning the one-way portion of Chestnut Street, between East Main Street and Jenkins Avenue, to a two-way thoroughfare.
Councilwoman Mary Fuller said the issues that made the block a one-way street do not exist anymore.
Fuller said the one-way restriction was to prevent traffic from making a left turn onto East Main Street.
"It isn't an issue getting out to Main Street because cars are stopped in traffic," she said.
Fuller said homeowners on Hector Alley would have no way to get out onto East Main Street during upcoming utility construction on East Main Street "unless they go the wrong way on Chestnut."
Committee Chairman Mike Sobel suggested posting a No Left Turn sign, forcing traffic to go right onto Main Street.
"That block was worse when the McDonald's was open," said committeeman Jason Van Dame.
