Palm Print Found at Burglarized Montgomery Home Leads to Conviction

Raymond Diaz, 23, of Philadelphia, admitted to a felony burglary charge in connection with the burglary of a home on Hopkins Court in Montgomery Township in July. Diaz's palm print was found on the glass of a sliding door

A palm print found on a sliding door of a burglarized Montgomery Township home was all investigators needed to lead them to Raymond Diaz, 23, of Philadelphia.

Diaz, of the 4700 block of Melrose Street, was given a nine- to 23-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to felony burglary of a home on the 100 block of Hopkins Court, according to Peg Gibbons of The Intelligencer.

The burglary occurred on July 23, 2012, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to court records.

Montgomery Township Police matched a palm print from the home to Diaz’s palm print, according to the article.

Investigators speculate Diaz pressed his hand against the glass of a sliding door to test its strength, and then pried the screen from a partially-open rear window, according to the article.

Taken in the burglary was a backpack and laptop computer, according to the article.

On the same day of the burglary, Lansdale Police were informed that Diaz and another woman allegedly stole her car, which Diaz allegedly crashed in Philadelphia in September, according to the report.

Four checks in the name of the burglarized Montgomery Township homeowner were found on the front seat of the car, Gibbons wrote.
