Professional Photographers Wanted for Lansdale Contract

Lansdale Borough is seeking a photographer for a one-year contract to capture all of Lansdale's wards and its people in every season to be used on the new website.

Professional photographers in our area would be upset at missing this moment in time.
Lansdale Borough is now seeking Requests For Proposals from photographers who wish to be contracted for 12 months to capture photos that will be used on the upcoming new borough website.
Photographers will be tasked, among other things, to capture moments in all of Lansdale's three wards in all four seasons. He or she would need to capture 12 portrait, event and scenery shots per month, per the RFP.
The borough Economic Development Committee and the Communication Commission jointly voted to move forward with the submission of the RFP for photographer services Monday night. Due date is Oct. 31.
Burnell said Mayor Andy Szekely has put the word out to artists in the North Penn Art Alliance.
Kirchner said once responses are in, and once administration determines who the photographer should be, she will bring the contract back to both committees. The committees will then recommend the contract for council approval.
Communication Commission member Rick Murphy asked when the borough would begin talking about costs for the photographer. Burnell said that would be determined once administration sees all responses.
"Typically," Kirchner said, "we look at the responses. We go for the best, and then we negotiate."
Kirchner said a photographer is needed as soon as possible.
"It's important to have a photographer on board for all the holiday events coming up," she said.
Per the RFP--available in PDF format at this link--the photographer will be responsible, on top of gathering seasonal images, for same-day access to Lansdale of high-resolution images and a weekly check-in with the project manager.
Lansdale is looking for someone to capture a "visual sense of 'Life in Motion,' referring to its brand narrative. The photographer must capture notable sites and locations in Lansdale, with the main focus being mid-to-close shots of people.
"Motion not enough. We need people at the center of the brand," Burnell said.
Each interested photographer must submit prior work experience, 10 samples of outdoor events, a detailed strategy for submitting photos, and references.
All photos would become property of Lansdale Borough.
"We don't have a professional photographer on staff," Burnell said. "We want to make sure the quality of the photos we are getting are at the highest level."
The borough is 15 weeks away from a new website. Kirchner said Monday that contracted designer CivicPlus has 26 weeks to complete the process.
CivicPlus signed a contract with Lansdale in August to complete the website revamp at www.lansdale.org for $38,422.
"This is very frontloaded on the borough end," Kirchner said. "It is getting to a point where we can make it into the site we want and they want."
CivicPlus designers will meet with borough committee and council members, and administrative department heads the week of Oct. 28 to complete surveys on the necessities of the new site.
"The survey will give them the information to ask the proper questions while they are here," Kirchner said.
Borough administration will focus on the functionality and design of the site, as Kirchner put it, "What we like, what we don't like, what can make it better."
Kirchner invited committee members to write down any URLs of other websites that can be used as comparison for the design of Lansdale's new site.
"We're going through what's there. We're going to clean it out," Kirchner said of the site.
Burnell said he was excited at the quick progress of the website redesign.
"I'm excited to have this underway. I'm looking very much forward to it," he said.
Kirchner said the website is a major project that is part of a comprehensive approach to making Lansdale a destination.
"Celebrate yourselves a bit," she said, "with what you've accomplished."
