Schwartz Wins Fifth Term in 13th Congressional District

The former Pennsylvania State senator unofficially beat Republican challenger Joe Rooney

Incumbent Democratic Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz has unofficially won re-election as U.S. Representative in the 13th Congressional District in Pennsylvania.

The former state senator garnered 113,268 unofficial votes in Montgomery County alone versus Rooney's 59,369 unofficial votes, according to county records.

She initially won election to her post in 2004, fulfilling Joe Hoeffel's seat. She was challenged unsuccessfully in prior elections by Melissa Brown, "The Apprentice 2" competitor Raj Bhakta, Marina Kats and Dee Adcock.

The 13th District includes precincts in Northeast Philadelphia and suburbs of Montgomery County.

In the North Penn area, the 13th District covers Hatfield Township 5-2, Lansdale Borough (all wards), Montgomery Township (all wards), North Wales Borough (all wards) and Upper Gwynedd Township Ward 3.

Incumbent Schwartz remains ahead of Republican Rooney with 53,721 unofficial votes to 27,710 unofficial votes, at 87 of 213 precincts reporting.

Newcomer Republican Joe Rooney trails incumbent Democrat Allyson Schwartz in the 13th Congressional District race in Montgomery County.

According to Montgomery County Unofficial Election results, Schwartz has 10,870 votes to Rooney's 6,213.

Results are 12 percent of the vote, with 26 of 213 precincts reporting.

The 13th Congressional District in the North Penn area covers Hatfield Township 5-2; Lansdale Borough (all wards); Montgomery Township (all wards); North Wales Borough (all wards); Upper Gwynedd Township 3.
