Trucks, Buses May Soon Be Banned on Lansdale's Forest Street

The public safety committee this month recommend Lansdale Borough Council approve a no trucks or buses except for local deliveries zone. The street is an access route to the Lansdale YMCA.

Trucks and buses may soon be banned from Forest Street in Lansdale.
The public safety committee recommended no trucks or buses, except for local deliveries, signage on the street that also acts as an access to the rear of Lansdale YMCA.
Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre said the buses are commercial ones picking up people at the YMCA for casino trips and the like.
He said he had seen video shot by a resident that showed buses literally driving onto peoples' lawns by as much as five feet.
"It's outrageous," McDyre said. "We talked to them, they promised they wouldn’t do it, they continue to do it."
What makes it even more of a safety concern is the fact that no sidewalks exist in the neighborhood.
"That street is very narrow. I would never want to bring a bus through there," McDyre said.
McDyre said the recommendation was fair.
"It's beneficial to the neighborhood," he said. "It creates fear with some kids."
The concern began with an email from a resident to Councilwoman Mary Fuller request the committee look into no truck or buses signage.
"The neighbors are frightened, obviously," said Fuller.
Fuller said the signage would benefit the upcoming North Penn Commons project on the site of the former Lans-Bowl. She said the police will be working with the Lansdale YMCA to make sure the buses remain restricted to Forest Street.
"No trucks would eliminate trucks from using that road, which they shouldn't, with the exception of local deliveries," McDyre said. "If the YMCA chose, and it had to be a route for, a delivery, we'd make it available."
