The month of March is full of musical events at Ursinus College. All events are free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
March 20: The Art of Influence Chicago-based pianist, composer and conductor Christopher Wendell Jones and poet, lyricist and Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing Anna Maria Hong talk about collaborating on writing songs and influences on the creative process at 7:30 p.m. in Bomberger Auditorium. March 21: Diary of the One Swelling Sea This interdisciplinary collaboration between poet Jill McCabe Johnson, visual artist Corinne Duchesne and composer and Ursinus Visiting Professor Garrett Hope, asks visitors to fully engage with three different modes of artistic expression. The resultant work can be experienced through May 16 in the Upper Gallery of the Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of Art. March 21: Ursinus College Jazz Ensemble Conducted by Holly Hubbs, Associate Professor of Music, the Jazz Ensemble presents its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Center’s Lenfest Theater. They will perform a variety of swing, Latin and ballad styles, as well as standards such as Green Dolphin Street and David Brubeck’s Take Five. The concert will also feature the music of modern jazz composer Charles Mingus. Click here for more information.
March 25: Calculus: The Musical! The musical is from the Matheatre, which was created in 2006 when Marc Gutman and Sadie Bowman decided to write a show so they could quit their jobs and have a cross-country adventure. The result was Calculus: The Musical!, which they toured for two years. The tour continues under the supervision of Know Theatre of Cincinnati and is sponsored by the Ursinus Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. March 29: Meistersingers Concert The Ursinus College Meistersingers, an auditioned group of singers, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Bomberger Auditorium. John French, holder of the Heefner Chair of Music, will conduct the program, which will include works from Africa, as well as a set of American Folk Songs by Aaron Copland conducted by senior David Nolan. March 30: Heefner Organ Recital College Organist Alan Morrison will present an organ recital at 4 p.m. in Bomberger Hall. Recognized as one of America's premier concert organists, he is the head of the organ department at the Curtis Institute of Music, Associate Professor of Organ at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, and head of the organ department at Westminster Choir College of Rider University. His performance during the inaugural festival of the Dobson organ in Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center (Verizon Hall), where he performs regularly, drew laudatory reviews from numerous national publications.
