After a rained out First Friday in June, Discover Lansdale has looked at making some changes for the July First Friday.
Gone are the numerous musical acts at three stages. Scheduled for July 6 is Philadelphia Funk Society at the main stage at Wood Street.
Discover Lansdale committee member Mary Fuller gave a rundown of new plans for July First Friday at this month's parks and recreation committee meeting.
Fuller said First Friday will be extended to 10 p.m. during the summer. Its starting time of 6 p.m. will remain intact.
"We didn't quite make it to 8 p.m. (last First Friday). We tried," she said.
She told the public safety committee this month that all streets closed during First Friday would reopen by 11 p.m. Madison Street will be barricaded from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. South Wood Street would be closed from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Richardson Avenue from Main Street to Mill Alley would be closed from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Railroad Avenue would be closed from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Cars left on Railroad Avenue will not be towed, according to Lansdale Police Chief and acting Manager Robert McDyre.
She said Discover Lansdale is discussing how to work on planning rain dates, which possibly would mean pushing back First Friday a week.
"It's hard to get (vendors) to come back for a rain date," she said.
Despite the rain, Discover Lansdale considered First Friday a success.
"We upped our vendor count to 45," she said. "We still adding vendors for July. We hope to break 50 for July 6."
Other entertainment for July First Friday is an open mic situation at Richardson Avenue and an interactive DJ and comedy theme production at Railroad Plaza by Keith Purnell.
There will also be a Zumba program at the Susquehanna Showcase at Susquehanna Avenue and Main Street.
