Montgomery Township Police Converting to Narrowband Radio System

Supervisors approved a $6,900 contract to evaluate and test the township's current 25kHz radio system in preparation of migrating to the 12.5kHz band

Montgomery Township police will be part of the narrowband channel soon. Last month, supervisors approved a $6,900 contract for RF Design and Engineering Inc., effective April 11, to evaluate and retune the police radio communication system. According to the National Insitute of Justice, the Federal Communications Commission has mandated that all non-Federal public safety licensees using a 25-kilohertz-wide channel and radio system migrate to the narrowband 12.5 kilohertz channels by Jan. 1, 2013. “The narrowband ensures more efficient radio usage and relieves radio congestion,” said Montgomery Township Police Deputy Chief Scott Bendig. “All this work will ensure compliance with future FCC-mandated requirements.” Montgomery Township police …
