North Penn PAL Planning Fanatical Fundraiser for Leukemia Patient

The North Penn Police Activities League is in the early planning stages of a fundraiser full of flair to benefit 13-year-old Matthew Knoebel, of Lansdale. Early ideas include an Old Navy-sponsored fashion show and a cops vs. kids basketball game

An Old Navy-sponsored fashion show, a "cops vs. kids" Round Robin basketball tournament, a half-court shot contest, a silent auction, Chase Utley autographs, North Penn and Lansdale Catholic sports team volunteers, raffles, hot dogs, sumo fat suit wrestling. Putting the chief of police in a dunk tank. UGFD Surprises Lansdale Teen With Donation

Upper Gwynedd Fire Department members visited the home of leukemia patient Matthew Knoebel, 13, at his Lansdale home Tuesday night, where they presented a check of more than $1,500 in proceeds from a special hoagie sale last Saturday.

There wasn't a dry eye on Poplar Street Tuesday night. Matthew Knoebel, 13, and his mother, Christina Simpson, stood out front of their home, with tears down their faces, and welcomed the heroes at their doorstep. The red lights from the engine and the tower ladder truck of Upper Gwynedd Fire Department illuminated the entire length of the quiet Lansdale street on a crisp February night — this time they were not signaling for an emergency. They were beacons of charity. Upper Gwynedd Fire Chief John Scheiter, along with fellow members and volunteers, hand-delivered to Knoebel and Simpson a check totaling $1,560 in proceeds garnered from a special hoagie sale last Saturday. "He's a great kid, and we thought it was a great opportunity to do …
