A Nose for Finding the Lost

Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale's Canine Emergency Search and Rescue, or CESAR, recently assisted in the search and rescue of a missing Hatfield man

It helps having a nose to find the lost. That's just what the dogs in the one-year-old Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale Canine Emergency Search and Rescue are trained to do. On Saturday afternoon, it was canine Bo, a bloodhound mix, his handler Rich Roberts and flanker Andrew Bell, who were able to locate missing 85-year-old Leo Beaulac. Beaulac had wandered from Spring Meadow Assisted Living at Walnut Street and Cowpath Road in Hatfield Township Friday night. Beaulac was found Saturday afternoon in a small culvert in a heavily-wooded area about 200 yards off a long driveway of 1622 Walnut Street. He was found 11 minutes after CESAR was dispatched in the area. VMSC Battalion Chief Jonathan Detweiler said CESAR was dispatched …

A man was injured Saturday afternoon after falling into a holding tank at a light industrial site on Blaine Street in Lansdale. Five Things You Should Have Read

How's your week been? Here's five stories you should have read this week

1. North Penn DUI Task Force held a mock DUI accident reenactment to illustrate to North Penn High School students the dangers of drinking and driving. The event featured mock rescue by Towamencin Vol. Fire Co., Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale and PennStar MedEvac. Check out our video here. 2. Lansdale Borough Mayor Andy Szekely released a letter to the editor on Thursday calling out council members who allegedly tried to silence him with a letter of reprimand for sharing with the public information discussed in one of council’s recent executive session that he said is questionable under the Sunshine Law. Man Hospitalized After Bedroom Fire at Parkside Manor Apartments

Careless smoking was the cause of a Monday night fire, according to Fairmount Fire Co. official.

One man was hospitalized following an apartment fire at Parkside Manor Apartments Monday night. At 10:35 p.m., the Fairmount Fire Company responded to a fire call at the apartment complex, located at 319 Whites Road in Lansdale. Upon entry, fire crews encountered a small fire in the apartment's bedroom. According to Roger Pancoast, first assistant chief and president of Fairmount Fire Company, the fire was a result of careless smoking.  Pancoast said that there was no structural damage to the building, but there was some minor property damage, including damage to a mattress and some towels. The male tenant was taken to Lansdale Hospital by Volunteer Medical Service Corps (VMSC) of Lansdale for observation. VMSC responded to the scene for …

I can't understand why the State doesn't require all of the apartments for the retired and assisted living facilities to have emergency doorway identifiers in all of their residential units. They are inexpensive and can help these folks in situations like what happened here. One company, LightSaver Technologies, who makes the LightSaver sells theirs online at: www.TheLightThatSavesLives.com   more ›
