Lansdale Brewery Round Guys Toasts Grand Opening

On Saturday, the brewery, which opened in July 2012, celebrated with raffles, prizes, giveaways, food, drink, hospitality and camaraderie.

Ben Franklin said it best: Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Proof was in the pints Saturday afternoon with all the happy faces gracing the grand opening of Lansdale brewery Round Guys Brewing Co. Local and state dignitaries were on hand — Lansdale Mayor Andy Szekely, Councilmen Dan Dunigan and Jason Van Dame, Sen. Bob Mensch and Rep. Bob Godshall — at the 1 p.m. ribbon cutting. The day was filled with full taps, giveaways, raffle prizes, contests and more. The Fermentors also rocked the place Saturday night. "We’ve basically been open for about a year, and we're celebrating our first year anniversary and officially putting our mark in Lansdale," said brewery co-owner Rich DiLiberto. "We are having a great day with …

The bowling alley and fun center will be located at the Hillcrest Shopping Center, and could open its doors as soon as December

A lease agreement has been signed between Trefoil Properties and local investment group PMC Entertainment, the future owners and operators of the tenative King Pinz Family Entertainment Center. During Wednesday night's Economic Development Committee report at the borough council work session, councilwoman Mary Fuller announced that Lansdale will once again have its own bowling alley. "This news is so hot, it's going to burn your fingers," she said. "It is with great pleasure that the Economic Development Committee, along with the Office of Community Development, announces that Trefoil has signed a lease agreement with an investment group who plans on operating a bowling alley and family fun center at Hillcrest Shopping Center." Fuller said…

@Sean C. I've driven by the property and it appears they haven't done a single thing. There's actually a "For Lease" sign in the window, so I'd guess the deal fell through. Pretty poor job by the town / the local reporters though to not even put out a press release about this. I was very excited for this project, as were a ton of my friends, but sadly it seems that it's not going to come to …   more ›

Council OKs $40K Business Improvement Contract

Delta Development Group, who is assessing the borough's parking, will develop a plan for a Business Improvement District. Council voted 7-2 to approve the contract

The 311 W. Main Task Force is still in the early stages of finding the purpose – and the funding – of the former arts center on Main Street. North Star Destination Strategies is still in the early stages of finding the identity and brand of Lansdale Borough. BPG Properties Ltd. is still in the preliminary stages of designing a retail Mecca and parking garage at Madison Parking Lot. With all that on their plate, borough council found room to approve this month a $40,000 contract with Delta Development Group to design and assess a Business Improvement District in downtown Lansdale. If Delta Development Group sounds familiar, that’s because it is the group contracted by the Lansdale Parking Authority to develop a parking improvement plan in …

Borough Council Honors Di Domizio With Moment of Silence

Former councilman and tax collector Robert Di Domizio Sr. passed away on December 18

Wednesday's Lansdale Borough Council meeting began on a solemn note, as Lansdale residents and council members collectively bowed their heads in a moment of silence to honor the passing of former councilman and tax collector Robert "Bob" Di Domizio Sr. Prior to the start of the meeting, several borough officials -- including Mayor Andy Szekely, Councilman Mike Sobel, Councilman Mike Riccio and Director of Utilities Jake Ziegler -- attended the Di Domizio viewing which was held at the Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home on Derstine Avenue. "I would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to Mary Rose and the rest of the Di Domizio family in the passing of Bob Di Domizio," said Szekely, during the council meeting.  "It was nice to see many of the …

Photo Gallery: Lansdale Mardi Gras Parade 2011

The 61st-annual parade had its memorable flash and flair

Main Street in Lansdale's downtown business district was the site Saturday afternoon of one of the most beloved events in town. Returning for a 61st year, the Lansdale Mardi Gras Parade kicked off at 1 p.m. at Mitchell Avenue and Main Street, featuring the equipment of local emergency responders, businesses, floats from service organizations, performances from local middle school bands and the award-winning Marching Knights, and plenty of familiar faces from the neighborhood. This year's theme was "Holiday Sing-A-Long." Residents and out-of-towners lined the sidewalks of Main Street in their typical bundled-up glory as they feasted their eyes on the people and vehicles parading down the street. There was, of course, some candy too. And at …

Three community members were honored recently for their service and dedication to the North Penn Rotary Club. Dr. Leon Strohecker received an award for 50 years of perfect attendance. Sam Dugan, of Montgomery Township, received an award for 22 years of perfect attendance. "Leon Strohecker has been a stalwart member of the club for 50 years and it shows in his generosity and involvement to the club and to the community, "said North Penn Rotary President Andy Szekely, mayor of Lansdale. "The same holds for Sam Dugan, who I'm sure will give us another 28 years of perfect attendance. I congratulate both of them for their service above self and to Rotary." Mayor Mike Memoriam in the Works

Borough council is expected to form a task force to discover possibilities for a permanent remembrance for the former Lansdale mayor

A memoriam for late Lansdale Mayor Mike DiNunzio is in the works on the borough-level, and a task force may soon be created in the near future to determine what should be the best way to honor him. At Wednesday's voting meeting, council President Matt West reminded the audience of his announcement from this month’s work session that the borough was planning some kind of recognition for Mayor Mike. “I’m happy to announce that, through a conversation that our borough manager Timi Kirchner had with our chief of police, (parks and recreation director) Carl Saldutti and (utilities director) Jake Ziegler, they have come up with a great idea: to designate a committee to determine an appropriate memoriam for the late Mayor Mike DiNunzio,” West …

Cruisin’ comes back to Lansdale - even if only for one night

Back in the day, Harry Henning would cruise Main Street Lansdale in his 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner with his friends in tow, without a care in the world. Harry’s days of cruising ran from about 1979 to 1985, until the police put the brakes on the weekend joy riders. “Lansdale used to be the central location for cruising in this area,” Henning said. “It used to be packed. People on the sidewalks, cars all the way down Main Street. It was really great.” Good times die hard, so perhaps it came as no surprise when Henning and his family took to Facebook and organized a night of old-school cruising Saturday in Lansdale. They even made it respectable by getting approval for “Cruisin’ the Strip” from the Lansdale Police Department and borough …

A Memorial Day View From A Veteran

Lansdale celebrates Memorial Day with a beautiful ceremony honoring service members past and present.

Bravo, Lansdale! For a small town, you celebrate in an incredibly big way. As a former soldier in the United States Army, I was admittedly curious of what the borough had in store for Memorial Day. My curiosity quickly turned to astonishment as residents moved en masse from the parade route to Memorial Park for a ceremony honoring the service and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform, past and present. Those who answer the call of duty have always held a special place in my heart.  The selflessness and humility, the bravery and the courage, and the will and the sacrifice had humbled me at an early age, leaving me wanting nothing more than to give back to those who had given so much of themselves, all in the name of freedom. To be …

Five Things You Should Have Read

How's your week been? Here's five stories you should have read this week

1. North Penn DUI Task Force held a mock DUI accident reenactment to illustrate to North Penn High School students the dangers of drinking and driving. The event featured mock rescue by Towamencin Vol. Fire Co., Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale and PennStar MedEvac. Check out our video here. 2. Lansdale Borough Mayor Andy Szekely released a letter to the editor on Thursday calling out council members who allegedly tried to silence him with a letter of reprimand for sharing with the public information discussed in one of council’s recent executive session that he said is questionable under the Sunshine Law. Read more about it here. 3. The Archive Books and Paper owner Dale Mechalas announced that he is opening a satellite store …
