Lansdale Madison Lot Redevelopment Plan Ekes By in 3-2 Vote

Lansdale Parking Authority members Tom Work and Todd Brown voted against accepting the sketch plan and purchase by Equus Capital Partners on Wednesday night.

Just made it. The future redevelopment of Madison Parking Lot into 21,000-square-feet of retail space, a skate park, parking garage, 250 apartment units and 540 parking spaces eked by at Wednesday night's Lansdale Parking Authority meeting in a 3-2 vote. Parking authority members Tom Work and Todd Brown voted against accepting the March 13 sketch plan from Equus Capital Partners (formerly BPG Properties) and negotiating an amendment agreement with Equus to the purchase and sale of the site. According to Dan Sokil of The Reporter, resident and Democratic council nominee Richard Strahm called Wednesday's night's vote a "crossroads" in the lot's current dilapidated state and Lansdale's revitalized future. "We have the ability to generate …

Mr. Willi -- interesting question. My understanding is that no one from the public spoke out against this project moving forward? Would be interesting to hear what agenda Mr. Work and Mr. Brown are serving in being against something that will have such an incredible positive impact on our town. Sadly, has to be political. You would think that Mr. Work would have addressed that since he is running…   more ›

Silk Factory Lofts in Lansdale Sold in Sheriff Sale

Morgan Properties, owner of Main Street Apartments and Forge Gate Apartments in Towamencin, and Brookside Manor in Hatfield, recently acquired the former silk factory at Line and Penn streets in Lansdale

The Silk Factory Lofts in Lansdale, located at Penn and Line streets, was acquired by real estate company Morgan Properties in a sheriff sale, according to Crissa Shoemaker DeBree of The Intelligencer. The property at 200 S. Line Street, and its accompanying neighboring site at 152 Prospect Avenue, went into mortgage foreclosure in July 2010, according to Montgomery County Prothonotary Records. The lender was GE Business Financial Services, Inc. The debt amount for the property was $28,025,457, according to county records. It was sold for costs on Oct. 31, 2012. Zoning Board Says No to Seven Apartments at Former 5th St. Pub

Mohammed Rafiuzzaman was seeking a variance to allow seven apartments in the building, but he didn't meet the parking requirements. The board allowed expansion of the non-conforming use

A Lansdale business owner wanted to build seven apartments inside the former Fifth Street Pub — gutting the downstairs bar area. After Tuesday’s zoning hearing board, what he got was four. The site at West Fifth Street and Towamencin Avenue presents an issue: it is a non-conforming use in the C-Residential zoning district. Apartments are not permitted by right in that district. The building had been used and allowed to operate as a boarding house and pub for a number of years, and its existence dates to before the incorporation of the borough zoning code. In order for owner Mohammed Rafiuzzaman to add more apartments, the zoning hearing board had to grant a variance for the continuance of and the expansion of the non-conforming use within …

Not too long ago the borough waive the two parking place requirement for proposed apartment building on Main Street. Oops...those rules don't apply for Main St. Codes don't apply either. Just look at the sidewalks. Built by taxpayer funds without permits or consideration of existing codes. Hipocracy runs rampant through the ruling elite of this borough council and it's minions.   more ›

Video: Inside 5th Street Pub Pre-Auction

The former Fifth Street Pub in Lansdale goes up for auction June 11. Tranzon Alderfer auctions opened the building for public inspection on Monday

The stench of stale cigarettes clinged to everything in the interior of the Fifth Street Pub in Lansdale. Jason Yoder, sales associate for Tranzon Alderfer, opened the building for inspection by potential bidders on Monday. Bidders were able to walk the interior and exterior of the property in preparation for the June 11 auction. The auction does not include a liquor license. The inside of the business looked like some odd Chernobyl ghost town. Four glass tumblers stood on the bartop, alongside a pack of Pall Malls and a Comcast remote. The cash register was still there, as were the flat-screen TVs, a foosball table and a half-full bottle of Goldschlager. The "Fifth Street Pub Take Out Pricing" wall was still intact. The same couldn't be …

Man Arrested Following Morning Standoff in Hatfield

Nearby residents evacuated after police surround unit in Line Street apartment complex

A Hatfield man was arrested late Friday morning following a standoff at Brookside Manor Apartments on Line Street. Tarone Marquis Jordan, 36, was taken into custody at about 11:25 a.m. after Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies attempted to serve him with a warrant at 7:45 a.m. Friday. "They requested (Hatfield Township Police) assistance after 8 a.m. to serve a warrant on (him)," said Officer Pat Hanrahan of Hatfield Township Police. Jordan had failed to make a court appearance following charges on Nov. 28 in Montgomery Township of being involved in an accident involving injury or death while not being properly licensed. Hanrahan said Jordan had a county probation violation, along with an adult bench warrant. Hatfield Police established a…

Careless smoking was the cause of a Monday night fire, according to Fairmount Fire Co. official.

One man was hospitalized following an apartment fire at Parkside Manor Apartments Monday night. At 10:35 p.m., the Fairmount Fire Company responded to a fire call at the apartment complex, located at 319 Whites Road in Lansdale. Upon entry, fire crews encountered a small fire in the apartment's bedroom. According to Roger Pancoast, first assistant chief and president of Fairmount Fire Company, the fire was a result of careless smoking.  Pancoast said that there was no structural damage to the building, but there was some minor property damage, including damage to a mattress and some towels. I can't understand why the State doesn't require all of the apartments for the retired and assisted living facilities to have emergency doorway identifiers in all of their residential units. They are inexpensive and can help these folks in situations like what happened here.
