Community Supports Lansdale Youth at Bake Sale Fundraiser

Matthew Knoebel is a Penndale seventh grader currently battling leukemia at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Knoebel's neighbors came together to hold a bake sale fundraiser in Lansdale Saturday

In 1974, Hatfield resident Melissa Garvin was much like Lansdale resident Matthew Knoebel. Garvin, pushing 43, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 3.  Knoebel, 12, a Penndale Middle School seventh-grader, is battling Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "I'm a longtime survivor myself," Garvin said. "I was diagnosed before my fourth birthday. The reason I came was I saw the Patch article. I had to stop by. Cancer doesn't have to beat you." Garvin was one of more than 80 people that stopped at the Pine Street home of Brad and Kaitlin Horner Saturday for a bake sale and hot choclate fundraiser for Knoebel. Knoebel resides a block away on Poplar Street. The event was organized by four families…

Douglass Road, Bellows Way Fires Under Investigation

Director of Fire Services Rick Lesniak said the fires are not related

The causes of two house fires that occurred exactly one month apart remain under investigation in Montgomery Township. The home of John and Linda Carlson at 20 Douglass Road went up in flames Thursday evening, Feb. 9. The house was completely destroyed. A month earlier, on Jan. 9, the home of Glenn and Joanne Harris at 119 Bellows Way was eradicated by a blaze. Both homes are completely uninhabitable and will most likely be razed. "We don't believe there is any relations between the two fires," said Rick Lesniak, director of fire services for Montgomery Township. A source informed Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch that the fire started after the homeowner Linda Carlson, upon reentering the home from smoking a cigarette, emptied the ashtray …

Bake Sale Raises $1,700 for Harris Family (video)

Neighbors along Tree Line Drive in Montgomery Township rallied behind the Harris Family in the wake of a devastating fire

A little hot chocolate on a brisk winter day goes a long way. It wasn't that the cocoa warmed one up during the windy Sunday in Montgomery Township; it was that the combination of cocoa, food and community helped warm the hearts of the Harris Family. In the end, the effort raised $1,708.65 for the family. Co-organizer Renee Johnson said it was amazing generosity from the neighborhood. It wasn't just neighbors that came out in support. Fire Department of Montgomery Township members stopped by to donate money, as did Rep. Todd Stephens. Joanne …

Clean and Green in the Lansdale Scene

Recycling extravaganza brought in close to $1,000 for Lansdale Library

Lansdale Borough Councilman Mike Sobel probably wished he was a car moving through the car wash outside the Lansdale Library Saturday afternoon. He was drenched head to toe in the 100-degree-plus heat, but kept on working and moving computer monitors to the dark library basement. Once down there, it was a brief cool down among the cement walls, and then back up top the parking lot for another round of moving recycled monitors.
