The fire was under control in about a half hour at 108 Runnymede Drive in Montgomery Township
A small bathroom fire on the second floor of a home at 108 Runnymede Drive was knocked down in about a half hour by Fire Department of Montgomery Township around 2:13 a.m. Saturday. The homeowner was awakened by the sound of the smoke alarm and discovered a fire in the master bathroom, according to a press release. The homeowner closed the bathroom and bedroom doors and evacuated the residence and called 9-1-1, according to Director of Fire Services Rick Lesniak. The first arriving fire officers reported a smoke condition on the second floor. Firefighters found a small fire in the second-floor bathroom and quickly extinguished the fire, Lesniak said. The black smoke billowed above the homes on Douglass Road. Around one curve in the road, residents packed the street behind police crime tape, looking something like a clogged artery. Their eyes were transfixed on the destruction at 20 Douglass Road. The entire roof of the two-story Colonial was gone. Firefighters hit two front upstairs rooms with water; the left upstairs room was consumed by fire. Down on the ground, another group of firefighters blasted the garage. The roof above, which was over a loft, had not just collapsed, but basically ripped at the seams where the eave meets the top of the exterior wall. Siding above the front door was melted off. Nine fire companies respond to a fire that broke out at the Hatfield Borough chuch shortly after 1 a.m.
[We've since updated our overnight coverage of the fire. Click here to read.] Grace Lutheran Church has been heavily damaged by a fire early New Year's Eve in Hatfield Borough. At around 1:23 a.m., two units from Hatfield Vol. Fire Co. arrived on the scene of the fire at 25 E. Broad St, according to Montgomery County Dispatch records. They were assisted in minutes by Towamencin Vol. Fire Co. and Preseverance Vol. Fire Co. of Souderton. At 2:02 a.m., Breaking News Network reported the fire department on scene, with heavy smoke showing from the roof of the church.
