Bone Marrow Donor Sought, Fundraisers Set for Lansdale Youth

Matthew Knoebel, 12, a Penndale Middle Schooler, is currently battling leukemia at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and a donor will be needed. A pancake fundraiser is set for Dec. 16 in Hatfield, as well as a hot chocolate sale

Penndale seventh-grader Matthew Knoebel is surrounded by love and generosity. The leukemia patient, 12, has spent a month on a hospital bed at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, but you can tell his mother, Christina Simpson, has made him feel at home. The hearts of the West Point-rooted Simpson family — sisters Christina and fiance Tom Coughlin, Kellie Roggio, of Upper Gwynedd, and Mary Aderman of Lansdale; brother Michael; and parents Mike and Sue — are much like their homelife (and Matthew's hospital room door): open. Methacton senior hosts bone marrow drive

Owen Murphy's mother was saved by a bone marrow transplant. The soon-to-be Eagle Scout returned the favor by hosting a community effort

     In October 2009, Sandy Murphy received a bone marrow transplant from a donor on the bone marrow registry.  On Sunday, her son Owen gave back to the registry in an incredible way.      With family and friends in attendance, Owen hosted a bone marrow registry drive at the Corpus Christi Church in Upper Gwynedd.  He manned the front door from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., greeting everyone with an eager handshake and a smile.       When asked about the reasoning behind the drive, Owen explained that his mother was fortunate to find a donor match in the registry, and that "many times, matches are hard to find." "People have misconceptions about donating marrow," he said, "and I think that discourages people from joining the registry."      The …
