Correspondent Brian Rox compares and contrasts the best convenience store coffee in town for the first in an ongoing series.
Main Street in Lansdale through Route 63 in Montgomery Township provides local residents with many opportunities to purchase necessities. Our town has plenty of stores selling similar items. Which one is best? I want to find out how the stores stack up against each other. The goal of this column is to judge which store has the best item and service along Main Street. I believe the best things in life start with coffee. For this challenge, I chose to find the best cup of coffee from a convenience store on Main Street. I know I didn't reach every place you can grab a cup of joe in our town, but I went for the ones that were most convenient on Main Street. I chose not to go to a coffee specialty store like Starbucks, but rather with the …

The 80-foot-tall oak tree that collapsed onto the roof and porch of a Main Street home was craned and chainsawed and chopped away
Onlookers lined up on West Main Street Saturday for the second day in a row following a torrential and vicious Friday thunderstorm. The first day was to marvel at the sight of a 48-inch-diameter, 80-foot-tall oak tree that crashed onto the roof and first-floor area of 618 W. Main St. in Lansdale. The second day was to marvel as tree removal crews used a large crane, chainsaws and a chipper to clean up the chaos. Check out our photo gallery of the cleanup and read about the Upper Gwynedd couple who were supposed to move into the home a week from tomorrow. Be sure to also check out our photo gallery of the chaos post-storm, as well as our reader submitted photos.

Lansdale residents should take advantage of free mulch and chips for yard landscaping

The celebration of Earth Day is here again, even into the weekend, and everybody has their minds on how to enjoy natural elements in their everyday lives. Most look to their own yards and plant a tree or fix up their gardens after months of winter weather. With all of the improvements, you might need to make to bring your yard back to life it can get very costly, very quickly. Lansdale residents can take advantage of an easy free resource for their gardens. Over the year the borough employees pick up tree limbs that fall during the course of storms, the collection of christmas trees and shrubs and trees that are dropped off by residents. All of this great natural material is sent through a chipper and the result is a LARGE pile of …

Turn snapshots into black-and-white coloring books.
These winter and early spring days are terrible for getting the kids outside. Most days, the weather is so cold that we only can stay outside for 10 minutes or less. This can lead to many days with crazy cabin fever with the kids. This is no way to have a happy household. Here is my crafty remedy for the crazy days of winter: Create your own story book after going on a walk with your kids. It's easy to make your own storybook of your walk. You will need a camera and computer with printer. Tell your kids to find interesting things during your walk. Kids find everything fascinating, so you will locate many items, even in the briefest walks. Our trend is to take mail to the mailbox that is located two blocks from our house. The walk is …

The Route 202 Parkway in Montgomery Township has become a vehicle-free paradise for runners, joggers and bikers.

Local residents are making the newly finished section of the Route 202 Parkway in Montgomery Township into their own "secret" walking trail. The section of Route 202 between Costco Road and Knapp Road is still closed to vehicular traffic and makes a nice running track for those who venture onto the empty four-lane highway that spans over Montgomeryville's busy Route 309. Resident Mike Nesbit was out for his usual afternoon walk along the empty stretch of road. "It's nice to walk on a quiet stretch of road with no cars," he said. "The view from the bridge over 309 is great. I enjoy walking here on my way to work because it's so peaceful, like I am the only person in the world." Cyclists have been using the thoroughfare because of its ease …

Snowed in? Decorate the trees with ice!

These snowy weeks have made it tough to keep my kids occupied. I do not like the TV on constantly. I would much prefer doing a craft with the kids. Here is a fun craft the kids can get really into: ice cube decorations. All you need is an ice cube tray or even a small bowl. Fill up a bowl ¾ with water and have your kids add food dye to the water. Place a one-foot-long piece of string into the bowl and set it in the freezer. A few hours later the kids will have decorations they can hang on a tree. The pieces melt over time and the snow below will have a tie-dyed effect. My kids will construct these before they go to bed , so they have something to look forward to in the morning. On these frozen days, you can even leave them outside…

Lansdale's First Friday featured a live-action painting display by resident Amy Rims
If you happened to walk through the Kids Zone of the YMCA during Lansdale's First Friday event, odds are that you were immortalized on canvas by local artist Amy Rims. Rims, a 29-year-old Lansdale resident and Temple University grad, put her live-action painting abilities on display, as she painted nearly everything and everyone that entered the room. More impressive was that this was her first foray into the art live action painting. "I've always liked to paint fast, and with a job coming up that requires me to do live-action painting, I thought this would be a good way to get some initial experience," said Rims. Typically, Rims likes to paint what she sees. "I like to paint to remember the moment." said Rims. "I really don't think in …

Today marks one month of Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch's success - and we couldn't have done it without you
Here it is – the one-month mark for Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch. We couldn’t have made it this far without you, our dedicated readers and residents. First, I want to thank you and your friends for coming along on this successful journey. The ship has been sailing with no leaks and calm winds, and the view from here is wide and beautiful. In 30 days, the site has seen new visitors daily and our number of hits is growing exceptionally. Being the new face on the Internet and to the local community is an exciting venture. Almost every day I hear someone mention visiting the site, and they often follow up with a story idea. That’s exactly what I’m looking for. In the past month, the Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch team has worked hard and …

In our digital future, there won't be any Kodak prints gathering dust in a shoebox
“Picture book, pictures of your momma, taken by your papa, a long time ago.” – The Kinks Pictures. I will clarify for those of you reading this who might be a little younger than myself. Years ago, when you wanted to take a picture, you had to use a camera and film. That was the way pictures worked. You took the pictures, had no idea if they were good or not, then sent them away to a mysterious lab. A week or so later, they were finished, and you could see what type of fun you actually had. Sometimes a joker would steal your camera and take a few shots without your knowledge until the film was developed. I was always guilty of that offense. I would take cameras and take a few pictures of silly things - a package of cookies or maybe…

A healthy dessert for your next festive gathering
This recipe is a simple , simple way to bring a vegan treat to your next festive gathering. I know that many people get scared of the word "vegan." Vegan is making food with no animal products. I really like this recipe because of it's remarkably easy to make and is delicious. All of the products listed are available at Giant. You will need: 8 oz. tofutti better than cream cheese PLAIN 18 oz. lemon pie filling 1 lb. of Silken tofu 1 cup organic sugar 1 piecrust Blend ingredients (not pie crust) until smooth. Pour into pie shell. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Let the pie sit at room temperature for at least 6 hours before serving. I have found the best results come from refrigerating overnight. Enjoy!

Thanks for the research Brian! FYI, the best place I have found to get coffee is either Dunkin Donuts on the Exxon on Main and Orvilla. Cheap, no lines, and the coffee is awesome.   more ›
