Lansdale Businesses Targeted to Promote Brand

The Economic Development Committee and the Communication Commission are poised to work with the Lansdale Business Association and the PennSuburban Chamber of Commerce to help promote the branding initiative

Getting Lansdale businesses on board to help promote the new brand initiative will be challenging, said Lansdale Business Association President Doug DiPasquale during last week's joint Economic Development Committee and Communication Commission meeting. The main challenge: Having business owners understand the use of the brand is not a borough-sanctioned thing. DiPasquale, who sits on the Economic Development Committee as liaison to the LBA, said the issue came up during a recent discussion of its murals project. "We talked about having a name for (the murals project): 'Murals in Motion.' 'Murals in Motion' is in keeping with the theme of the borough, but it's not a borough project," he said. "The education still needs to be there. In …

First Friday Returns in April 2013

Lansdale Councilwoman and Discover Lansdale Chairwoman Mary Fuller reviewed the success of December's First Friday at a recent committee meeting

Santa Claus came to town on November 30, and that meant letters. Tabora Farms donated the Letters to Santa Writing Station at Discover Lansdale's First Friday that night, and what resulted was a big sack of wish lists. "The Discover Lansdale elves want to tell everyone they will, in fact, get what they put on their list," said Fuller. Fuller reviewed what is considered a successful First Friday to wrap 2012 at the parks and recreation committee meeting last week. First Friday will return in April 2013. Discover Lansdale already has some musical acts booked, including Beatles tribute band Almost Fab and Philly Funk Authority. Discover Lansdale has been in contact with the bands Where's Pete?, Slimfit, The Mighty Manatees and singer-…

Tornado Potatoes, Volcano Sodas and Lansdale Day

The sun came out Saturday afternoon and shined on a busy and entertaining Lansdale Day on Main Street

There were tornados galore in Lansdale on Saturday morning, and volcanos erupted out of plastic cups on West Main Street. Lansdale Day returned on a sunny and hot Saturday, a far converse over the previous evening's First Friday events.  Vendors including Lansdale Republican Committee, Lansdale Democratic Committee, Milestones in Music, Simple Brandz, The Reporter, The Intelligencer, Blue Comet Motorcycle Club and more showed off their wares and products to visitors of all ages. The most popular things at Lansdale Day: the North Penn Rotary-sponsored petting zoo, jumbo tornado potatoes and Bobby D's Liquid Volcanos - dry ice dropped into flavored sodas. First Friday Revival Under Way

A small committee of Lansdale Borough business owners want to bring First Friday back on April 6 as a more mature, casual, not-for-profit event

A small band of Lansdale Business Association members have approached the parks and recreation and public safety committees on the logistics of getting First Friday back in Lansdale, beginning April 6. North Penn Community Network, the former organizer of the event, has dropped the First Friday event. Now, Chantilly Floral owner Charles Booz and Lansdale Business Center owner Ellen Foulke want to revive First Friday as a not-for-profit event. They also want to make it more mature and casual than the prior First Fridays. "The goal is to get Main Street excited again," Booz told the public safety committee. "The event had left a bad taste in many of the Main Street vendors. We want to make that connection again and get it going." He said the…

Parking Study Highlights Need For New Businesses

Nelson\Nygaard consulting firm makes recommendations to improve borough parking situation

The Nelson\Nygaard consulting firm presented their comprehensive parking study during Wednesday night's Lansdale Parking Authority meeting, and while the study predominantly focused on parking availability, the amount and variety of businesses within the borough also came into question. As a part of the parking study, the Nelson\Nygaard firm conducted an online survey of more than 200 people, of which 80 percent were located within the 19446 zip code.  The survey results suggest that a lack of stores and restaurants — not the availability of parking — has been keeping people away from the borough. "The main reasons [people] don't go to Lansdale had nothing to do with parking," said Ralph DeNisco, a senior associate with Nelson\Nygaard.  "…
