Chestnut Street Playground Project Getting $195K Grant

Montgomery County Commissioners approved last week a Community Development Block Grant to help fund the rehabilitation and renovation of a community park in Souderton Borough

The Chestnut Street Playground is set to get a $195,000 Community Development Block Grant from Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Development. The full requested amount was approved by commissioners last week.  The construction of the playground has a focus on special needs and accessibility. The grant will do the following, per description of the grant in the county's proposed CDBG municipal allocation document: The Chestnut Street Playground, also known as the Wile Avenue Playground, at Wile Avenue and West Chestnut Street in Souderton is considered a hidden treasure in the borough. Residents Thankful for Construction Meeting

Lansdale staff, the borough engineer, and councilmen met with affected taxpayers of West Fourth Street in preparation for an upcoming Community Development Block Grant project

By May 7, residents of West Fourth Street between Broad Street and Walnut Street in Lansdale will be inconvenienced for four months because of the replacement of sanitary lines, storm sewer lines, water lines and new curbs and sidewalk. Everything's good for now. A construction charrette Monday night at Lansdale United Methodist Church with those affected residents brought some things to the forefront and those residents can now sit a little easier knowing what's to come. Borough Considering CDBG Application for West Fourth Street

Completion of a Community Development Block Grant project on Sixth Street is on hiatus until temperatures get warmer.

A road improvement project on Sixth Street in the borough is on hiatus until proper temperatures come around to pave the roadway. The borough may also apply for a Community Development Block Grant for road improvements on West Fourth Street between Broad and Walnut streets, according to public works director Jake Ziegler. Ziegler said new applications are due by April 1. Montgomery Township to Apply for Community Development Block Grant

If successful, the township intends to bring certain handicapped-ramps up to new standards.

Montgomery Township is ramping up to apply for some much-needed funding to help those with disabilities. The township intends to send an application to the Montgomery County Housing and Community Development office, seeking to participate in the Block Grant program. The county received an estimated $3.5 million this year for the program, and to qualify for the grant, a project must meet one of the following three national objectives: The township applied for the grant last year, seeking to secure funding to assist with the installment and replacement of handicapped-ramps throughout the township.
