Priests from St. Stanislaus in Lansdale and Corpus Christi Church in Upper Gwynedd were 'surprised' at the news, and called Pope Benedict XVI's resignation an 'act of humility'
With the announcement Monday of Pope Benedict XVI resigning at the end of February due to failing health — something that has not occurred in more than 600 years — local priests of Catholic churches in the Montgomeryville-Lansdale area were first and foremost surprised at the news. "I was surprised to hear the announcement this morning, but I don't think it's a coincidence he announced it today, The World Day of the Sick on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes," said Father Philip Forlano, parochial vicar at St. Stanislaus Church in Lansdale. Forlano said Monday, Feb. 11 is the day where Catholics pray for the sick and recognize the face of Christ in the sick and suffering. He said these moments, as in the initial apparation of Our Lady of …

With blessings bestowed and college careers in the future, it was hats off for 180 seniors from Lansdale Catholic during the 60th commencement ceremony at Our Lady of Czestochowa in New Britain Township. The valedictorian was Jane Bedrossian, 18, of Harleysville, according to The Reporter. In the article, Bedrossian compared her peers' lives with writing a book: “Every day we have the opportunity to truly follow in (Jesus’) divine footsteps ... Continue writing a story you can be proud of.” Salutatorian Lauren Sirianni said students were prepared for life by their teachers, who reinforced values instilled by their parents, according to the article. “Believe in yourselves. Four Christian women protested outside Corpus Christi Church Wednesday against the proposed contraception mandate
The right to free exercise of religion is stated there in black and brown in the U.S. Constitution. But American Christians nationwide are using the freedom of assembly and petition to get the word out against an HHS mandate under the Affordable Care Act. One such assembly against what is believed to be an attack on religious freedom occurs every Wednesday on the grounds of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Upper Gwynedd along Sumneytown Pike. That is where Carolyn Stenger, of Schwenksville, and three other peers were protesting Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. They will return there every Wednesday, same time, and on Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. "We are outside to evangelize and protect religious freedom," said Stenger, who said Corpus …

When it comes to church and children, it really is suffer the little children.
Holiday Catholics ... it is the season, right? My mom hated that term growing up, but it was a true occurrence. According to Urban Dictionary, it means those who go to Mass only on Easter and Christmas. “They take all the good seats and overcrowd the parking lot,” reads the entry. (“Jesus’ Homedog” wrote that entry, for what it’s worth.) But the past religious weekend reminded me of something my husband and I have failed to fully address during the past five years: going to church. We were both born and raised Catholic. We just aren’t very good Catholics. To start, we had our son approximately two years before we got married. While we still attended Pre-Cana, we just giggled through the parts where they asked if you’d “willingly accept …
